Release: opt-in analytics + video generation - #739
One release branch for OGAM. Two feature branches are merged with merge commits; conflicts are resolved where each rule lives now. Video joins opt-in analytics.
Merge order: off-grid-ai/shared#68 → off-grid-ai/mobile-pro#94 → this PR. The pro submodule points at mobile-pro#94's head. Desktop side: off-grid-ai/OGAD#215, off-grid-ai/desktop-pro#125.
Conflict resolution (main's behaviour kept, video kept)
Residency: the policy lives in @offgrid/models (shared#68 adds the video resident type). The old local policy file stays deleted.
Search model picker (from the video branch): main replaced the old RAG index with the shared document engine, so the picker now switches the document index. The new choice and the removal of the old model's vectors are one transaction in documents.db; documents re-embed as they are used, keyword search answers meanwhile. (The video branch kept this choice in rag.db; it never shipped, so nothing migrates.)
Chat queue: main's hold and send-now rules (shared takeNextQueued) stay; the queue also waits for a pending video.
Auto Setup: the compact selectable plans and the analytics consent row. The onboarding download steps now follow the session phase in one place.
Generation analytics stays on the tool and fallback paths.
Resolution notes (where one side's code could not be kept as is)
Chat queue (decided, CPTO call): text follows main's shared rule (messages queued in one chat go together, send-now first, as on OGAD and the extension); a queued video-mode prompt is always its own turn, never combined. OGAM#697's "wait while a video is pending" is kept. Test: queuedVideoIsItsOwnTurn.rendered.test.tsx.
Search model picker (OGAM#697): kept, ported onto main's shared document engine (main deleted the old RAG chunk/vector tables and rag/retrieval.ts). Switching re-embeds documents as they are used instead of one blocking rebuild with a progress count. The old engine's 4 tests stay deleted as on main.
Residency policy: main moved it to @offgrid/models; OGAM#697's video type is now there (shared#68).
Auto Setup: a plan no longer changes the model loading mode — OGAM#697's own change, kept; main's test updated.
Pro expiry: lands on the Home tab (OGAM#697), main's comment kept.
Settings: the backend picker sits in General (OGAM#697); main's "Use fastest settings" stays in Text. Main's tests now open General.
Video in analytics (docs/ANALYTICS.md, identical to OGAD's copy)
generation_finished with modality: video, duration_ms, and the backend that ran; OGAD remote video is engine/backend remote. Never the prompt.
feature_used and features_snapshot gain video_generation; new video_setup flow; video pack downloads report model_download_* (a completed pack used to be removed without a finished event).
SD image and video packs report engine sd.cpp.
Other fixes
Android release build: the JS bundle task now runs after prepareVideoRuntime (Gradle refused the release build without the order).
A model that asked for the NPU but ran on the CPU reports zero offloaded layers (typecheck after merge).
Tests: new remoteVideoAnalytics.rendered.test.tsx (OGAD fake at the network boundary, real app above it); main's queue tests restored; settings/Auto Setup tests follow the merged screens.
Checks
CI green on f3a8e6f (ci, SonarCloud, CodeQL, CodeRabbit).
Jest, full suite, --maxWorkers=1, against shared release/analytics-video: 828/828 suites, 8496 tests pass (before main was merged in). CI on the main merge: 831/831 suites, 8509 tests pass; it failed only on the 100% coverage gate for the analytics files, now fixed (video setup funnel and video facts covered; a scrub.ts branch that OGAM#737 also leaves uncovered).
Main merged in (split-GGUF, OGAM#736); needs shared main inside shared's release branch, which shared#68 now has.
Pushed with --no-verify: the pre-push hook's Jest maps @offgrid/* to ../shared, which on this Mac is shared main; the same gates ran by hand against the release shared (above).
Devices (release builds)
iPhone 17 Pro Max: fresh install → analytics off by default (Auto Setup row and Settings toggles). Wan 2.1 (1.3B) downloaded; local video in a video-only chat: 2 s clip in 11 min 35 s (with analytics off), then opted in from Settings and made a second clip (12 min 58 s). Search model switch to MiniLM L12 works.
OnePlus CPH2707: fresh install → analytics off by default. Wan 2.1 via Auto Setup; opted in; local video on the NPU path reached step 12 of 20 (about 1 step a minute), then the phone was unplugged. The finished Android clip is not verified.
OGAD remote video from mobile: not verified yet (deferred by Ali: the OGAD port is held by another dev OGAD on this Mac). No OGAD from the release branch was running on the LAN. It is covered by remoteVideoAnalytics.rendered.test.tsx against OGAD's wire shapes (/v1/videos submit, poll, content).
PostHog-side confirmation of the events (times in UTC): requested from the coordinating session.

Known gaps (follow-ups, not in this PR)
Auto Setup shows 100% for a video pack while its last file is still downloading (Android).
A video model is picked only by its small check icon in Home's Video sheet; tapping the row does nothing.
A video-only chat says "begin chatting with Unknown".
With no text model, every launch opens Auto Setup (main behaviour; a video-only user meets it each time).
The memory guard refuses Wan 2.1 at default clip size on both phones (7.5 GB estimate vs 5 GB budget on iPhone); "Run anyway" works.
Features in this release (Android OnePlus CPH2707 and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Debug apps on this branch's JS)
Setup plans
Lean, Balanced and Extreme are the phone's own Fast, Balanced and Best picks from the catalog. Each plan's video row names the model this phone can run. "Find my computer" and "Videos are made on " show only on a phone too small for local video; both test phones (11 GB and 12 GB) can run Wan 2.1 Light, so neither shows it (covered by its rendered test).

Clear the remote video selection when a refresh fails.
This PR adds video as a remote media category and a Video row. When testConnection fails, refreshModels still clears only image, transcription and voice. A video model on that unreachable server stays selected. The Video row keeps showing it as remote, and video generation targets a server that is down. clearActiveRemoteModel already clears video (see remoteServerManager.test.ts).

🟡 Minor · Include a running video in the "send now" check. · useChatGenerationActions.ts:1180-1182
handleSendFn now queues a send when videoGenerationService.getState().phase === 'running' (Line 1140). sendQueuedNowFn does not check the video phase.
When a user taps "send now" during a video, running is false, so the function calls generationService.drainQueue() without stopping the video. The drained turn then starts in one of two ways:
As a text generation that runs at the same time as the native video worker. This is the memory contention the queue exists to prevent.
As a video turn that rejects with "Video generation is already running."
Apply the same video check here, so "send now" stops the video first.

before_send runs before queue insertion, not again when queued events upload. When usage changes to false while crashes remain true, applyConsent keeps the existing client. Usage events captured before withdrawal can therefore remain in the persistent queue and upload later.
Remove only queued non-crash events on the true-to-false usage transition. Keep the crash queue and client active. Do not call forget() or reset the shared identity for this partial transition; those actions apply to full opt-out.

Make the ram_gb requirement match initialization timing.
The implementation adds ram_gb only after asynchronous memory detection completes. Early events can omit this property, despite the “Properties on every event” rule. Buffer early events or document ram_gb as unavailable during startup.

Minor · Add the app-code file-name exception to the “Never send” file-name rule. · ANALYTICS.md:18
Add the app-code file-name exception to the “Never send” file-name rule.
The “Never send” rule forbids all file names. The $exception row in Crashes permits the app's own code file names, such as index.js. The rule has no reference to that exception, so the two statements conflict. Add the exception to the rule:
📝 Suggested fix
-- File names, document names, paths, URLs, domains, hostnames or IP addresses (including remote server and LAN addresses).+- File names, document names, paths, URLs, domains, hostnames or IP addresses (including remote server and LAN addresses). The only exception is the app's own code file name in `$exception` events (see Crashes).
Do not remove the exception from the Crashes section. The scrubber keeps app code file names, so that section describes the implemented behavior.

Record the duration of text and vision turns.
generationStarted reads metrics.durationMs for generation_finished.duration_ms, but this outcome never supplies it. Measure elapsed time in withTrackedModelFallback and pass it on both success and failure. A duration based only on state.startTime would omit earlier fallback routes.

…ttons open the sheet
On both phones these TouchableOpacity buttons dropped the tap (fixed in
mobile-pro a0b9e0a0). The real navigator now runs in the start-image tests
(jest.unmock of @react-navigation/native), so the person reaches the storyboard
through Make it a story and the viewer through the clip card. Desktop's fake
answers POST /v1/stories/storyboard as Desktop does with no text model loaded:
the shared template, marked source: template.
…ing it and on-phone video
iOS (iPhone 17 Pro Max, dev app on this release's JS): setup Lean, Balanced,
Extreme; the phone's picks; the Off Grid AI mark; clip card and chips; the
start-image sheet; storyboard and its Start from a photo sheet; the viewer and
its Continue sheet; Remote Servers. Android (OnePlus CPH2707): Animate muted
and its sheet, Your videos, Making it after a failed render, and the memory
guard before Wan 2.2 Light runs on the phone.
sd.cpp: the Image tab's recommendations, RealVisXL v5.0 Lightning (Light)
downloading, loading, generating and its result in chat (2 min 36 s with
the load), and Home's image model sheet. Core ML: SD 2.1 Palettized
generating and its result (56 s).
… item, not whether a fourth item exists
items is typed [text, image, speech, video?], so items[3] was the video item;
checking the kind keeps that true if the tuple ever changes. No behaviour change.
Without Pro the Videos tab stays on the Gallery, and its header still offered
the image select button: pressing it showed "N selected" over the video list.
The button now shows on the Images tab only (labelled "Select images"), and
moving to Videos ends the selection.
…d in
downloadEnded returned early when it held no entry for the download, and it
holds one only when an analytics client exists, which is after opting in. So
the failure prompt (consentPrompt: "after a model download fails") never
showed to the people it is for. It is asked before the early return now; the
30-day throttle still applies and nothing is sent.
…deo model
refreshModels cleared image, speech and voice selections on a server that did
not answer, but not video, which this release added. The Video row kept naming
the dead server and video generation kept targeting it. The refresh-failure
test now holds a video selection too.
…nd the clip finishes before the test ends
The test passed on its scripted reply alone, and its second video-mode tap
turned video mode back on (video mode is for one message), so the last
question was queued as a second clip. It now sends that question in text mode,
checks the one text request carries both questions and not the clip, and waits
for the clip card so no poll outlives the fake Desktop.
sendQueuedNowFn stopped only a running text or image reply. With a clip
running, Send now drained the queue straight away, so the turn either raced the
native video worker for memory or was refused as "already running". It uses
the send path's own busy rule now (videoSeam.isBusy()), so the video is
cancelled and the queued message is sent. The Desktop video fake can hold a
job and records POST /v1/videos/:id/cancel, answering as Desktop does.
…moves the queue on
The remote tool path skipped finishDeferred and drainQueue when the turn was
aborted; the local path runs both either way. A clip the turn deferred could
then stay pending and hold queued messages. Both paths now settle it the same
way. Every user Stop also cancels video, so no user path was found to reach the
stuck state; this keeps the remote path from relying on that.
…sed, not undefined behaviour
The weight, VAE and prompt strings (and the negative prompt) went straight
from [input[...] UTF8String] into std::string; a missing key is NULL there,
which is undefined behaviour and can end the process. generate now rejects
VIDEO_BAD_REQUEST for a missing weight, VAE, prompt or output path, and an
absent negative prompt is empty. JS always sends these today; this guards the
native boundary.
curl -C - resumes from an existing archive, so a truncated or corrupt download
failed the checksum on every later build until someone deleted it by hand. The
script removes it and says so, so the next build downloads it afresh.
scripts/rag/__tests__/embeddingIndex.test.cjs drove the old RagDatabase
staging API, which main replaced with the shared document store; it failed on
every case and no script ran it. It is replaced by a jest integration test over
the document engine harness: a new search model is kept at once, the old
model's vectors go in the same transaction, the document still answers a turn,
and switching back clears the choice.
Only the chat screen's own delete removed a chat's videos, and it removed the
records before the files and ignored a failed unlink, so an MP4 could stay with
no Gallery record. The Chats list, Home recents and project lists did not touch
videos at all. The shared cleanup (deleteChatImages) now deletes each video
with deleteGeneratedVideo, which removes the file first and the record after,
and the chat screen's duplicate is gone.
…s only
A pack is read from the top of its folder (resolveSDImagePack), so a
checkpoint inside a repository sub-folder downloaded in full and then failed
with "Select one complete SD checkpoint"; its URL also encoded the slash
(%2F), unlike every other path. Search now keeps root-level weights only and
encodes each path segment.
… upload
before_send runs when an event is queued, not when the queue uploads, and the
queue persists. Turning Usage off while Crash reports stay on kept the client,
so usage events taken just before could still upload afterwards. On that
transition the client now drops queued non-crash events; crash events, the
client and the anonymous ID stay (forget() remains the full opt-out).
…f their own
Each file of a Wan pack is now its own native download keyed
video-file:<id>/<file> (VIDEO_FILE_KEY_PREFIX). Hydration leaves those rows to
the video provider, which shows the pack as one row, so a relaunch no longer
replaces the pack's row with one file's size and progress. The native download
fake's rows can carry modelKey, combinedTotalBytes and createdAt as the native
module's do.
…t 1 GB
--runInBand held every suite in one process: slow, and the same setup ran Pro's hook
out of heap. Recycled parallel workers keep memory bounded and finish in minutes.
iOS: both 'Keep Off Grid open' interrupt messages read 'Keep Off Grid AI open'.
Android: the generation notification reads 'Off Grid AI is using this device.'

Release: opt-in analytics + video generation
One release branch for OGAM. Two feature branches are merged with merge commits; conflicts are resolved where each rule lives now. Video joins opt-in analytics.

Known gaps (follow-ups, not in this PR)
Features in this release (Android OnePlus CPH2707 and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Debug apps on this branch's JS)
Setup plans
Lean, Balanced and Extreme are the phone's own Fast, Balanced and Best picks from the catalog. Each plan's video row names the model this phone can run. "Find my computer" and "Videos are made on " show only on a phone too small for local video; both test phones (11 GB and 12 GB) can run Wan 2.1 Light, so neither shows it (covered by its rendered test).
The phone's picks (Models, Text)
"For this phone" offers a Fast, a Balanced and a Best model, sized to this phone.
Off Grid AI's mark
A model from Off Grid AI's org shows the app logo beside its name ("Made by Off Grid AI" to a screen reader). Other uploads do not.
Clip card and chips in chat
A finished clip shows as its card, with Continue, New shot and Make it a story under it. Continue is muted when no model can start from a picture.
Viewer
Full-screen player with Continue, New shot, Save and Delete. A muted Continue opens the start-image sheet.
Storyboard
A film's shots, each with its duration, narration, Start from a photo, Redo and Remove. A muted Start from a photo opens the sheet.
Animate a photo
From a picture in the Gallery. Muted when no model can start from a picture; a tap opens the sheet (here the Mac's Light download stopped at 35%, so it offers Resume).
Your videos and Making it
Gallery › Videos opens the library (All, Stories, Clips). A render that failed shows why and Try again.
Start-image loop
A muted Continue, Animate or Start from a photo opens one sheet. The sheet asks the paired computer what it has and gives one next step: follow a download already running there (never a second download), use a build it already has, download the Light build that fits (Full quality only when the computer has twice the memory it needs), or, when nothing fits, say how much memory is needed and offer a new clip from a description. Android 03 to 06 come from a temporary local edit that fakes what the computer reports; the others are what the real computers reported.
Image generation (sd.cpp), iOS
The Image tab recommends the sd.cpp models that fit this phone (
getRecommendedSDImageModels): SDXL Lightning and Turbo, and Off Grid AI's RealVisXL, DreamShaper, Juggernaut, Animagine, Illustrious and Pony builds (full and Light). RealVisXL v5.0 Lightning (Light), 2.6 GB, downloaded at 10–12 MB/s, was selected on download, and drew "a red fox in fresh snow at dawn, photo" in chat in 2 min 36 s, model load included. The mobile app has no separate image screen: images come from a chat in image mode.Image generation (Core ML), iOS
SD 2.1 Palettized still works: "a lighthouse on a rocky coast at sunset" in 56 s.
Image generation (sd.cpp, MNN/QNN), Android
Not checked yet: the OnePlus restarted during the Wan 2.2 run (below) and is disconnected.
Remote Servers
Video on the phone (Wan 2.2 Light, Android)
The memory guard stops Wan 2.2 Light (24 GB suggested) on the 11 GB OnePlus and offers Run anyway.
Chat search, iOS
Checked by hand (2026-10-27; OnePlus CPH2707 and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Debug apps on Metro; Macs at 192.168.1.34 and 192.168.1.41)
